As a part of our homeschooling day, we start out every morning by writing a Bible verse in our Scripture Notebook.  This both helps the students work on their handwriting as well as learn verses.  I was super excited when I saw that there was a book for children of favorite Bible verses – 100 Favorite Bible Verses for Children by Miriam Latimer and Julianne St. Clair.  I was even more excited to see that the book had a devotional tied into the verse.  The devotionals are perfect length for the short attention span of young children.

The book 100 Favorite Bible Verses for Children is a smaller, hard cover book that could fit easily into a purse or diaper bag.  It appears to be of durable structure.  One each two page layout there is a devotional on the left page, and the related Bible verse with an adorable illustration pertaining to the topic on the right page.  I love the illustrations as they are mostly of friendly- looking animals.  Each illustration has a soft look to it which makes the book feel inviting to youngsters.

I usually love to give books 5 out of 5 stars, but there is part of this book that I don’t particularly care for. I don’t really like that every verse is written in a different version of the Bible.  My guess is that the authors chose whichever version made it the easiest for a child to understand, but I feel like the versions should have been consistent.  I feel it would have been a much better book if every version was in NIV or NKJV, etc.  I am more old school in that I don’t really like the newer versions of the Bible.

I give the book, 100 Favorite Bible Verses for Children a 4 out of 5 because it is a great learning tool, but I wish the versions of the Bible verses were more consistent.
