Truths Every Girl Should Know Series: #1- You are Beautiful.

As you grow and experience life, lies will at times try to hit you in the face.  Nasty old Satan might try to get you to believe these lies by putting thoughts in your head that aren’t true, or by putting people in your life who may say mean things to you.  This nasty enemy might try to make you feel like you are ugly, or not important, like no one likes you or loves you, or like you don’t have any friends.

It is important to recognize the lies in life.  The lies are things that are OPPOSITE of what the Bible says about you.  The Bible- the words that God wrote, is filled with such truth.

While it is important to recognize what are lies, it is also important to remember the truths about ourselves- what God says about us and how God sees us.  We MUST believe we are how God sees us instead of how Satan sees us, because Satan will always try to hurt us and destroy us.

God will encourage us and help us be happy.  He is the one who brings us life!  Isn’t it great we have God?

Here is one great truth about you:

God made you- and God does not make ugly things.  He makes things of beauty.  God formed you and your body with HIS hands, as a potter uses clay to form beautiful artwork.  God knows everything about you, even the number of hairs that you have on your head!  It is important to remember that God made you how you look for a reason, and embrace how He made you look.

Don’t try to turn yourself into looking like someone else, but try to be happy with how God made you.  Don’t waste minutes wishing you could look different.  Don’t believe lies about you and always know and remember this truth- no matter what anyone else ever says:

You Are Beautiful.

You are beautiful in the outside (your hair, how tall you are, etc) and you are beautiful on the inside (your kindness, your heart, your personality).

Here are some verses of truth regarding your beauty:

“And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” (Says Jesus) – Matthew 10:30, and the same verse is also in Like 12:7

Yet you, Lord, are our Father, we are the clay, and you are the potter; we are all he work of your hand.” – Isaiah 64:8

The king is enthralled by your beauty: honor him, for he is your Lord.” -Psalm 45:11 (This Psalm, this poem, is also seen as a prophecy about Christ and his bride which is the church (you).

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” -Genesis 1:27 (We are made in God’s image, and many Bible verses describe God as beautiful, therefore we are beautiful too if we were made in His image).

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made, your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139: 13,14

He has made everything beautiful in its time.”  -Ecclesiastes 3:11

For we are God’s workmanship , created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” – Ephesians 2:20

Now, just as there are these verses in the Bible to help you realize that God made you beautiful, I want you to know that God wants you to focus more on inward beauty than outward beauty.  That means, He is more concerned with how your heart is and how you love and treat others, than how your hair looks.

Big D writes this:

If a person focuses a lot on outward beauty, then that person is focusing more on things of the flesh and that beauty gets people in trouble.

Here are some verses about having a beautiful INSIDE:

Charm is deceptive and beauty is fletching, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” – Proverbs 31:30

The Lord said to Samuel, ” Do not look on his appearance or in the height of his statue, because I have rejected him.  For the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” -1 Samuel 16:7

Do not let your adorning be external- the braiding of hair and the putting in of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear- but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is God’s sighted very precious.”  1 Peter 3:3-4

The main goal for us all: young and old, male and female, is to diligently seek the beauty of the Lord.

One thing have I asked if the Lord that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.” -Psalm 27:4

Now with all that being said in the Bible, what if by chance you ever come across a person who lets you think you might be ugly either on the inside or your outward appearance?

Then,  Big D writes this:

“You need to reject that lie by knowing the truth that the beauty that matters is inside and not outside.  What is highly esteemed by men is detestable in the sight of God.

Man judges the outside, but His (God’s) opinion is greater than man’s, and He looks at the heart.  Outward beauty glorifies flesh, but inward beauty glorifies God.  Faith is inward beauty and in my opinion, God loves faith!  Remember Jesus could have come as a model, but He didn’t. Isaiah 53:2 says, ‘for he grew up before whom like a young plant, and like a root put of a dry ground.  He had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and  no beauty that we should desire him.’  Isn’t that awesome?  Jesus came as a normal, average-looking guy.  I love that about Him.  Most of us are average on the outside, but as we are confirmed to Jesus, we are beautiful on the inside where it matters most.”

With that, I pray:

Dear God,

Help your daughters to always feel beautiful- both inside and out.  Help them to not focus on outward appearance but to always remember that the condition of their heart is what matters most.  Help them to remember that with You their hearts will be formed the proper way.  I ask that they would remember the truth about beauty and any lies of the enemy will be haunted in their tracks- then continually replaced with truth.
